Navigating Racial Identity in a Divided Childhood
In this episode, we delve into the complexities of growing up in a racially divided community in Southeast Texas over 30 years ago. Our guest shares personal experiences from China, Texas, where the community was starkly divided along racial lines, with blacks living on one side of the tracks and whites on the other.
As the child of a Black father and a white mother, our guest faced unique challenges in finding their place. Attending a predominantly Black elementary school, they struggled to fit in, often feeling caught between two worlds. This poignant story explores themes of identity, belonging, and the quest for acceptance in a divided society.
